| Bob: There
were a couple of 'firsts' on this trip. Of course, it was the first
time Andy & Sue had been to Caddo Lake, but also the first time I
had my own GPS, the first time Bill & I together circumnavigated Goat Island successfully, and the first time Bill & I were both shooting pictures with digital SLRs. Photo Pages: (Bob, Andy) |

| Bob: The first
day on the water, we spent
hours lost on the lake. Broke into two groups and still were not all
back to camp until long after dark. The second day Bob and Chris
completed our first successful circumnavigation of Goat Island (with
GPS assistance). 9 lbs of shrimp. Bill: We caught, photographed and released a Mississippi Green Water Snake (Nerodia cyclopion). Weeks after we returned, Bill passed out little silver engraved pocket knives to the 7 major players on this trip. Photo Pages: (Gay, Bob, Stephen, Chris) |

| Bill: Attended
the international RAMSAR
convention at Caddo Lake. Stayed at the State Park and a hotel in
Marshall. Saw the play "Texan Woman" by Marcia Thomas. Bought a
carved walking stick by Kennith (Pops) Winn (#119). I
watched a partial eclipse of the moon on the fishing pier
one night. There was a group of 3 UT students who drove up just
for the night to watch the eclipse from that very pier, too. The end of
2003 - The museum at CLSP headquarters was remodeled. |

| Bill: Saw a
copperhead snake. Had a
storm on Friday night. 4 lbs of shrimp. Ate lunch on
island. Have GPS map of our all day trip into the swamp. Before
we left on our Caddo trip, Kathy Boyer asked me about alligators in the
lake. I told her we seldom see them. When we got to Caddo, I took
Kathy and her son, Jeff, out in a canoe on their first trip into Caddo
at the Mill Pond. Sure enough, we saw a small alligator.
Four year old Jeff, turned to his mom and said, "See! I told you
there are alligators out here." He didn't seem pleased at all. He
also didn't like his picture taken. I had to sneak up on him the
whole trip. |

Caught out
on the lake in a huge

Marshal pottery warehouse & plant nurseries. Decorated our trailer
and campsite with potted plants. Left early due to rain and wet
campsite. Steve Archer stayed & paddled with late comer, Steve
Brooks. |

Allison dumped in river and panicked. She only calmed down when Bob
told her a huge lie, 'there are no alligators in the river'! We had
almost as many boats as people, and twice as many ice chests (everyone
needed two chests, one for food, the other for beer) Bill: Our best group photo. |

alligator. Photographed a
luna moth. Great bluebonnets. Faced with the possibility of the
group spending the night out on the lake, Bob heroically races for
help... in the wrong direction, and gets lost! Makes it back to the
cars well after
dark. Russel's lounge
chair. "Give it up! We are all dead!" said David Sipowitz.
Cynthia was appalled that I wasn't going to send out a search party for
Bob
until after lunch the next day. She wanted me to report you
missing that very night. I said, "Naw. "He's a big boy."
Bob made it in, though. It was black, but you followed the
bubbles on the surface of the lake. Bob timed it perfectly,
too. When he paddled up, all the boats were already loaded. pic 01 |

| Bill: Great
stone soup dinner.
Everyone brought water guns. What NOT to say around the campfire:
"Has anyone seen my water gun?". This was the first time
I had ever seen a Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus). It
woke me up
early in the morning. I went out to see who was hammering at such
an ungodly hour. I was amazed at the size of this monster
woodpecker when I found it. I was even hesitant to tell the
others for fear they wouldn't believe me. group photo1, group photo 2, Swamp Queen, pic 03, pic 04 |

Hopelessly lost on the lake for over 5 hours with nothing but beer and
food. Kept seeing those same three trees! Bill: There is more to navigating around Caddo than meets the eye. We'd paddle the canoe until we could go no farther. Then we'd stand up and turn around. "You lead for awhile." pic01, pic02, pic03 |

| First Brooks Brothers trip to Caddo.
After a rainy night, and soaked sleeping bags, woke up EARY on a
Saturday to heavy fog. Paddled 3 miles down the 'river' before entering
Caddo Lake proper. Good thing Nancy & friend were watching the
maps, Bill & Bob were enjoying the scenery too much. |
