Kathleen and I met on a kayaking trip... and continued seeing each other for the next 9 months, every weekend. She is an artist, a teacher, a novice kayaker; she enjoys backpacking and travel... and, best of all, she worked on an ambulance crew ! We can go out together, and I can do really foolish things with the assurance that she will put me back together. . . or, at least keep me alive until help arrives. Who could ask for anything more ?
We were married in San Antonio, at Travis Park United Methodist Church. This beautiful and historic church located in the heart of down town, is my parents church and the church I grew up in as a young boy.
I did kinda wonder immediatly after the wedding. Were those tears of joy, or... ???
It was quite a 'family affair'. My brother, Bill, was the best man, and my sister was one of the brides maids. Kathleen's two brothers were our ushers and her sister was the maid of honor.
Of course, we had to pay homage to the way we had met... I thought we should title this "Whitewater Gothic".
My brother, and best man, always the 'social butterfly', seemed even more interested than is normal in the women at our reception. Little did we know he had ulterior motives.
After the traditional toast, Bill announced to the room that he knew there were several keys to my house that I had passed out over the years. He said that, now that I was married, we really ought to call in those keys. . . Every woman in the room, from 16 to 60, stood up and dropped a key into a pan Bill provided!
I really didn't know women wore their garters so high up the thigh.
We served fajitas, and of course, had the more traditional Bride's and Groom's cakes.
One more example of our love of kayaking was the Groom's cake ! The figures were sculpted for us as a wedding present, by my good friend Tim LeVane.
Of course, you can't have your cake and eat it too !
And, "That's all folks" !!!

Ours was a wonderful wedding. We thank all our good and close friends who were able to be a part of it. Though we may not have had as much time to spend with each of you as we would have liked, your presence helped to make it a very special day for both Kathleen and myself. Here are pictures of our honeymoon... Hey, get your minds out of the gutter ! Not THOSE kind of pictures !

We left San Antonio, Texas and traveled across New Mexico and Arizona, seeing the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum along the way. We stayed a couple of nights in Las Vegas and then began an 8 day raft trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. This was a great way to spend the honeymoon, but my wife feels that if your concern is privacy, go to the Cayman Islands and stay in a hotel.

Leaving the river we spent a few days hiking and camping in Utah- including doing a 19 mile slot canyon (at times 300' deep and 5' wide). Again, not a typical honeymoon destination.

Finally we headed north and returned through Colorado, spending the 4th of July watching a wonderful fireworks display with friends in Denver. All in all as fine a honeymoon as a wedding...
